XMIND ideas?

I was approached by XMind recently to see if I would chat to one of their team as a ‘power-user’ and have a meeting setup next week.

Almost all of my use is openEHR-related, and here is my wishlist

  • Much better file-format / api documentation to allow AI tools to better integrate. I guess add to chat custom MCP plugins to their AI
  • Improved custom xmind templates so that we can offer ‘starter’ templates for openEHR based on existing mindmaps.
  • I will see if they can offer discounts or even sponsorship to openEHR (in return for a bit of gentle promotion)

Any other suggestions?

yeah having a well documented file format is a must, as well as mcp

Having free read only view would be wonderful

Better support for process mapping.

What would that mean in practice? I assume that the tree like nature of mind maps are the restriction?

The fileformat would be a very needed feature to make it possible/easier to make tooling for bi-directional modelling sessions.
I stopped using XMIND because of this.

And of course as @yampeku a free read-only viewer (if that not there) would be a must-have for an open community like ours. A few developers and many views.

Fancy asking them to open source their stack?

That would definitely take away most of my objections to using Xmind.

If they’re in a mood for fun you could also ask them:

“Exactly how long do you think it would take our community to Claude Code a mindmapping tool that’s perfectly aligned with openEHR’s data model, has an open file format, and MCP support?”
