If I’m using ICD-11 to code a disorder in the Problem/diagnosis archetype, I’ll use the dv_coded_text/defining_code/code_string to store the Mortality and morbidity Statistcs (MMS) code, for example “BA41.0” for Acute ST elevation myocardial infarction. This is the code most clinicians probably will relate to and learn.
But where do I put the corresponding foundation URI http://id.who.int/icd/entity/391388807 ? Is this a mappings? But it’s the same terminology and the same term, not a different terminology or a more or less equivalent term.
All ICD-11 terms come from a common termlist for WHO Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC) (this termlist is called: WHO-FIC foundation). All concepts in this common termlist have a URI that is their “stable” ID. In the various ICD-11 linearisations (term collections), like “Mortality and morbidity Statistics (MMS)” the concepts get an addition code, which is specific for this linearization. This is the code which is the one that clinicians will probably see, and is similar to the ICD-10 code today. The URI foundation id, is common for all uses of this code, and therefore important to know (to be able to know that you have the correct code, or to use various tools or rules connected to the foundation ID). So both are important to record, store and exchange.
BA41.0 Acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (I imagine this is what clinicians will see, and which is the main code that should be stored in Problem/diagnosis name, but that could be debated of course).
