HL7 / openEHR Ireland Meeting
Where and when: 18:00-19:30, Monday 11 May 2026 at the EY offices, Harcourt Centre, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2.
What: Join the HL7 and openEHR leadership teams to consider a proposal for a joint HL7/openEHR Ireland Affiliate. We will discuss:
* The benefits for HL7 and openEHR Ireland for Irish digital health
* How HL7/openEHR Affiliates work
* Who’s interested in Ireland
@grahamegrieve, creator of the HL7 FHIR Standard, will outline how FHIR addresses the challenges of exchanging health data between a multitude of health systems. Grahame will detail how FHIR developed to become the global standard for healthcare interoperability and the steps that Ireland should take to develop FHIR at a national level. This 60-minute interactive discussion aimed at developers, clinicians, vendors and policy makers, will discuss what Ireland could achieve in the next 3 -5 years in developing a coherent, interoperable health system!
@jpieraj, CEO of openEHR, will also speak about the importance of collaboration between standards bodies, highlighting the ongoing partnership between HL7 and openEHR. He will explore how stronger alignment between these communities can accelerate interoperability efforts, and how establishing a joint openEHR and HL7 affiliate could be a valuable next step for Ireland in advancing a unified, standards-driven approach to digital health.
