Google summer of code deadline tomorrow!

Hi!

We have nearly missed the chance to apply for mentoring Google Summer
of code (GSoC) projects...

We'll begin accepting applications from open source mentoring organizations on Monday,
March 3, 2008; we'll stop accepting organization applications on Wednesday, March 12th

That is tomorrow at 19.00 UTC

GSoC main page: http://code.google.com/soc/2008/

An example of a previous successful Health-IT applicant:

Last year I discussed a 2008 participation in GSoC with some of you in
the community. I don't have a complete picture of what open source
openEHR projects and possible mentors there are out there and I have
not talked to people on the list (except myself and Rong) below, so
see it as a start with the possibility add or remove mentors and
project ideas:

* Tom Beale (or others from ocean) - Ocean-initiated open source tools
(ADL Workbench, .NET Archetype editor)...
* Rong Chen - openEHR Java reference implementation and related tools...
* Tim Cook - openEHR implementation in Python and related tools...
* Erik Sundvall - LiU Archetype editor v 2.0 w/template editing
(possibly web/flash-based),
* Erik Sundvall - Adding clients and/or server features to the LiU
REST based (java Restlets+XML Database) openEHR server/service
implementation
* Somebody from http://www.linkehr.com/ ?

I'd suggest that potential mentors list 1-5 project ideas each on the
newly created openEHR wiki-page...
http://www.openehr.org/wiki/display/dev/GSoC2008
...and that we'll link to that page in our application

Who will be best suited to fill out the application form? Tom Beale maybe?

I believe that we all could benefit from applying under the openEHR
"umbrella" since only about 130 mentor organisations were accepted
globally last year. I suggest the openEHR foundation would be the
official applicant and should receive a decent part (30%?) of the
mentoring USD 500 reimbursement for each accepted student before
passing the remaining of the money on to respective mentors.

Best regards,
Erik Sundvall

Hi Erik,

I think it’s a very good idea! I will try to fill in the ideas about the Java project on the Wiki page.

Cheers,
Rong
