Agree. I’ve written something about my vision for the future about this here, but I don’t know whether there’s any work being done to move in this direction.
The [pnt] (point) unit is not an arbitrary unit, but a length unit used in typography. If you need an arbitrary unit called “point”, you should probably represent that using something like “[arb’U]{point}”. The curly braces are disregarded by UCUM parsers, and is often used to annotate UCUM units. We have examples in the current PropertyUnitData.xml file of units represented in this way.
The process to get a unit into the file is a bit involved, but if you could post a link to some documentation about the unit(s) in question I can do it this time.
The problem with the parser misunderstanding the apostrophe should probably be fixed in the parser, alternatively by escaping the text?
