Should this list receive notifications for changes to ADL reference archetypes & schemas?

The SVN repository at http://www.openehr.org/svn/knowledge2/ contains a library of ADL 1.5 reference test archetypes, 13606 test archetypes, openEHR RM tool schemas, a draft EN13606 tool schema. It is growing slowly to include all archetypes needed for testing and certifying any archetype tool. The test archetypes are also a good way for archetype authors to learn about ADL 1.5, using the ADL Workbench, so the repository has some educational value as well. (And we would love more people to contribute test cases !).

Would it be useful for this list to receive notices of changes to this repository? If you look at the log (http://www.openehr.org/wsvn/knowledge2/?op=log&rev=0&isdir=1) you can see that the pattern of changes tends to be a group of 3 or 4 changes roughly once per month. We could probably be more careful about this, and get it down to just one commit per logical change. There are some people here building or testing tools who would probably like to know about these changes, but on the other hand, the majority of this group might not be interested.

Could I encourage people to reply to this post if:

  • you hate the idea of these notifications coming to this list

  • you really like the idea of notifications coming to the list

  • you want to receive notifications by by some other channel
    thanks

I choose the third one. There should be a mailing list for the
development of ADL and tools.

My 2 cents.

Tim

I'm ok with both number 2 and 3. I also like Tim idea

I agree, except I do not want to receive them at all. I never read
SVN-information.
Just a notification when a release is delivered is fine for me.

I think anyway that software development should take place in releases,
and every release should have a detailed description of targets and changes.

Thanks, Bert

How about we just point the notifications at the implementers list then? Or do people think we need a new list? (The HL7 experience of 40 + lists makes me allergic to more lists

I'd like to get notifications of changes to archetypes and releases of
specifications

happy to sign up to a special list for those

Grahame

If it's a series of notifications one should consider using a RSS feed -
those that wish to track the notifications will have the capability ..
and it's not yet another e-mail list.

I am with you on the dangers of too many lists - but I think there should be a
difference between lists that humans post to, and lists that automated
scripts post to.

If the proposal is that the subversion repository sends commit messages
somewhere, then yes I would like to receive them, but I would
like them to a special list devoted to 'bot' traffic (or as Rene suggests
an RSS feed).

Andrew

Excellent point Rene.

I would vote for RSS

RSS is a good option, I didn’t think of it… and we already have that in place due to WSVN, see e.g. http://www.openehr.org/wsvn/knowledge2

So I would propose to put the RSS links on the openEHR website in an easy place to find them… seem reasonable?

Same for me.

Thanks for all the feedback. We have created an RSS feed page, accessible from a) the home page hotlinks area and b) the ‘community’ menu button. The feed page contains all the currently active SVN repositories. Next step:

  • If anyone working on those or on some other openEHR.org repository wants to have the text changed, or add more RSS links (e.g. to ./BRANCHES/some_branch etc) let me know

  • it occurred to me that people with open source openEHR projects hosted elsewhere might want to connect their RSS links to the openEHR.org site. I don’t know if this makes sense - please say so if it does.
As an aside, we have also improved the news feeds (thanks Helma!), so that software releases are a separate feed. I will ask about adding RSS feeds for these as well.
