openEHR Conference - musicians wanted!!!

Hi all,

With our 1st International openEHR Conference coming up soon, it has been suggested that we could potentially put together a small live band from the openEHR Community (or that part of the community who can make it to the Conference!)

We have a few people interested, and we can facilitate bringing some of the equipment needed. It’s looking like we will have microhones, mixer, a digital piano, a PA system, and some guitar amplifiers.

It’s unlikely that we will get to rehearse, so it will likely be somewhat ‘ramshackle’, but I reckon if we have a few people who are able to read from chord charts/lyric sheets, we might just get away with it.

If interested, reply below with some info about what instrument you’d be playing, and I’ll add you to the private message we have going for planning what were doing.

Playlist suggestions…

  • “Doctor! Doctor!” - The Thompson Twins
  • “The EHR that I breathe” - The Hollies
  • “Let me stand next to your FHIR” - Jimi Hendrix

Any more?

Thanks for bumping the thread @Pete_Bouvier

I’ve no idea what sort of material we will end up doing, hopefully not all of it will be pun based! :rofl:

Hoping we might get more interest in terms of musicians available? Singers? Drummers? Bass players?

We’ve got our own theme song?!

The chorus perfectly explains data silos, interoperability and open data :joy:

Could these walls come crumbling down?
I want to feel my feet on the ground
And leave behind this prison we share
Step into the open air

Just to update the community, we have had a bit more time to put together some planning for the musical session at the Conference. We are going to style it a little more like an ‘open mic night’ type of thing, rather than trying to put together a polished set.

We will have a ‘backing band’ The Archetypes composed of @Pete_Bouvier (drums/cajon), @xabiermichelena (piano/keys/vocals), @johnmeredith (guitar), and me @marcusbaw (guitar/vocals), and we will have a few numbers we can jam out together.

But we’d really like it if anyone else at the conference wanted to jump up and sing a couple of numbers, or play something. You can play solo or we in the band can back you.

I will be bringing equipment (PA, various guitars, microphones, etc) which you will all be welcome to use as I know some people may be coming quite a distance and it would be impractical to pack your guitar!

Happy to take a turn on keys if there’s a space. I can hold a tune on BVs but that’s about it.

Just a little update for this thread post-Conference to say that we did a great little ‘open mic’ session in which we managed to play about a dozen tunes, with a range of players, and it was great!

@xabiermichelena - piano and vocals
@johnmeredith - acoustic guitar and vocals
@Sam did a turn on acoustic and singing
@thomas.beale and @Sam had a little acoustic jam afterwards
@Jaime and @Pete_Bouvier played cajón
@marcusbaw (me) on guitar and vocals

It wasn’t super tight, having had no real opportunity for rehearsal, but we definitely cemented the idea of an OpenEHR Conference Band for the future and I think now that people ‘get’ what it is like, we might have more takers for joining in, in the future.

Next year we should definitely do the same again, and of course if we have others willing to play that would be amazing! We don’t yet know where next year’s conference will be, but we will aim to support people travelling a long way by supplying instruments where we can.

It was great. When I first saw the post about the band, I had my doubts -I even had a draft written as a reply to that post- and decided not to take active part. Now I want in next year, no hesitation. We’ll definitely be in touch

Absolutely brilliant. I’m glad you found a much better drummer than I could ever have offered!!

From an audience perspective, I thought it came over incredibly well and it was difficult to believe and it all come together a bit randomly.

Maybe next year I can bring my triangle!!

Whichever the next conference I attend, I assure you that I’ll make the biggest musical contribution amongst you. By not singing.
