I am exploring the integration of openEHR into a healthcare ecosystem and wanted to seek advice from the community here. As a relatively new adopter…, I am particularly interested in understanding:
Data Modeling :- How do you approach creating archetypes and templates to ensure scalability and adaptability for future needs: ??
Interoperability :- What challenges have you faced in achieving seamless interoperability with existing systems (e.g., HL7, FHIR)? Any tips for overcoming these: ??
Best Practices :- Are there recommended strategies or tools to streamline the implementation process and minimize technical debt over time: ??
Success Stories :- Could you share examples of healthcare organizations that successfully implemented openEHR and the benefits they realized: ??
I would greatly appreciate insights, practical tips or references to helpful resources. My goal is to make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls in our openEHR journey.
You might need to define what scalability and adaptability is for you, because the context is information modeling, and generally when talking about those aspects, the whole software system is considered, not only information modeling.
This also needs to be defined, what do you consider “seamless interoperability”?
Because “seamless” might be considered as “effortless” and integrating systems that understand different standards, models, formats and protocols is never an easy task, basically it takes a lot of work to make FHIR and openEHR to work together, though once it’s done it can be seen as “seamless”.
Technical Debt might be generated from different parts of the system, from different requirements and even from using certain technical stacks. I don’t think openEHR has anything to do with technical debt per se.
Can you share what you want to do? That’s the most important thing to be able to give you some useful advice.
IMHO, first read the specs, then check available tooling, then check the existing models, then try to talk with experts that can share their experiences with you.
