# 'Reply To' setting in openehr posts **Category:** [Clinical (archive)](https://discourse.openehr.org/c/clinical-archive/153) **Created:** 2005-01-27 14:35 UTC **Views:** 6 **Replies:** 4 **URL:** https://discourse.openehr.org/t/reply-to-setting-in-openehr-posts/14463 --- ## Post #1 by @USM_Bish This is a request for the List Admin\. The 'Reply To:' setting for the mailing list is currently set for the Original Poster \(OP\)\. This results in two things: o On hitting \[Reply\] on most MUAs the 'To:' address is set for   the OP\. Since the OP would in any case a copy of the mail if   the reply is sent to the list, keeping the 'Reply To:' set   for the list would save all the trouble of doing a Cc to the   list or altering the 'To:' address\. o A lot of 'Undelived/ undeliverable' messages, and autoreplies   \(those with 'out\-of\-office' mechanisms set\) are also returned   to the OP\. I received 8 such autoreplies to a post I made on   the list earlier this evening\. It would be nice if the List Admin could consider setting the 'Reply To:' option for list mails to the list itself\. Thanking you, Dr USM Bish --- ## Post #2 by @system I agree, this is commonly done on mailinglists Bert Verhees USM Bish wrote: --- ## Post #3 by @Tim_Cook6 > This is a request for the List Admin\. \.\.\. > It would be nice if the List Admin could consider setting the > 'Reply To:' option for list mails to the list itself\. I concur\. The argument is sometimes made against this setting because people accidentally send email to the list that they intended to only send to one person\. I think this is a specious argument that doesn't server the majority of list users\. --- ## Post #4 by @Tim_Cook6 \.\.\.nor does it SERVE them either\! <vbg> --- ## Post #5 by @Martin_van_den_Bemt >> >> o A lot of 'Undelived/ undeliverable' messages, and autoreplies >> \(those with 'out\-of\-office' mechanisms set\) are also returned >> to the OP\. I received 8 such autoreplies to a post I made on >> the list earlier this evening\. >> This is the consequence of how the mailing list is setup : it is setup as a mail address, with no reference to it as being a mailinglist \(or bulk mail address\) Here is how to fix it : Most of my mailinglist subscriptions have a List\-Id <dotted listname> or an extra header of Delivered\-To: mailing list <list adres>\. They all however have the Precedence: bulk mailheader set\. Setting Precedence: bulk will prevent good mail clients/servers sending out of office mails to that address\. If it does, the client is broken and needs fixing\.\. See ftp://ftp.rfc-editor.org/in-notes/rfc2919.txt for List\-Id\. Precendence: bulk is non standard, but widely adopted by most mailinst list systems\.
