# [OT] - Any Probs ? [was: Re: UNSUBSCRIBE] **Category:** [Technical (archive)](https://discourse.openehr.org/c/technical-archive/156) **Created:** 2005-03-11 15:00 UTC **Views:** 5 **Replies:** 6 **URL:** https://discourse.openehr.org/t/ot-any-probs-was-re-unsubscribe/15519 --- ## Post #1 by @USM_Bish1 \-\-\-end quoted text\-\-\- There seems to be a flurry of "Unsubscribe" requests over the last few days, posted on list\. Normal logic dictates, that, the best way to get out of any place is to use the same door you came in through\. The web innterface at http://openehr.org and going through the links: 'Community \-> Membership \-> Login \-> Remove Regn' was working fine enough\. I tried the 'modify' option, to suspended my mails for a short spell, while on vacation\. I faced no problems then\. o Is there a problem with the web interface ? o Or is it, that folk are opting for the 'emergency exit' as a   primary measure ? Perhaps, bringing 'Membership' and 'Discussion Lists' on the opening page rather than hiding it behind the 'Community' link make things easier\. Just a suggestion\. Bish --- ## Post #2 by @Jose_E_Leon Bish I've read very carefuly your email about what is an easy solution for unsubscribe \("emergency exit"\)\. It's very interesting everything\. If you are active member of the list the ideal way is to go to the website and > Login\.\.\. , but if you are not working anymore in that since many years and you forgot your login/password then it will be a little difficult for you to find a way to unsubscribe\. This is my case\. I'm really sorry for disturbing people who are not guilty for that, but I'm not doing that intentionally\. I'm just trying to find a way to unsubscribe me from the list, and maybe somebody from the list can give me a hint\. I think there must be an easier way, at least to unsubscribe from the list\. If somebody from this list knows how to do it, I will be very thankful if they let me know how is that\. Thank you very much Jose Leon --- ## Post #3 by @USM_Bish1 Now, I get the main problem \! Oops Jose, you caught me on the wrong foot here ;\-\) \. It sure is a genuine problem if your access is locked because of forgotten username/ password \! Frankly, I overlooked this issue \.\.\. MY BAD \.\.\. this sure is a major problem\. There is no option here but for Lloyd to help out \! Possible methods are: o Link for 'forgotten username / password', OR o Periodic 'password/ username' reminder mails, OR o Blank mail with Subject 'unsubscribe' to a specific list\-mail   box as one of the alternate methods\. Could one of the list admins pipe in here ? Bish --- ## Post #4 by @thomas.beale Dear all, you can normally login and unsubscribe\. However, I recognise that there are those in the position described in this email\. I have recommended to the webmaster & sysadmin people to enable a no\-login email method of unsubscribing\. I have suggested that sending an unsubscribe message to the list\-manager address \(not the list itself; I am amazed that anyone thinks that will work\!\) will actually get them unsubscribed and send an email saying so\. In the case of malicious abuse \(faked "from" address\), this reply email will alert someone who doesn't want to be unsubscribed\. Alternatively, in response to an unsubscribe email we could make the list manager send an email asking for confirmation \(like yahoogroups\) and responding to that will get you unsubscribed\. This way is slightly more annoying but less open to malicious abuse\. What would people prefer? What is regarded as reasonable configuration on other lists? \- thomas beale Jose E Leon wrote: --- ## Post #5 by @Ignacio_Valdes Does this list have a Mailman type web interface? If so, please direct me to it\. If not, perhaps using Mailman would be better? \-\- IV --- ## Post #6 by @USM_Bish1 Yes, Thomas, the 'unsubscribe' email method with reconfirmation is acceptable\. My suggestion would be to retain existing 'Login' method and the email method as an alternate\. A possible implementation would be: o Blank mail to: openehr\-unsubscribe@openehr\.org o Check the header for the "From: " \($from\) field o If '$from' exists, send automated re\-confirmatory mail with   link to existing http://openehr.org/cgi-bin/whatever.cgi   \(with username varified from $from\)\. o From there onwards the processes would be common \(viz\. the   actual process still done by the web mechanism\)\. Bish --- ## Post #7 by @sebastian.garde In any case, it would be really good to have a way to recover your login\-password, not only in order to unsubscribe, But also to subscribe to the recently established new openEHR\-lists or change your list registrations\.
