A well written post, with good arguments. Some interesting details the about legislative state of things, which I did not know, which makes the post useful to me.
I cannot help feeling that it is written with a not clearly named, but strongly felt conviction though, with some arguments kept incomplete to the degree to make them incorrect (at codes bit). If I’m being prejudicious, I’d be glad to be corrected.
My potential responses to this could be classified into two categories:
I spent a very long time in my career responding heavily in the first category. The problem is, that is not taking the results for the stakeholders forward. So I stopped, and I’m not interested in doing that anymore.
The later, looking for answers with an aim to build the best we can, based on what we all know and learned, is what I’ve been trying to do. I am not the only one either; it made sense to a lot of people, from across different positions and opinions so that’s what we’ve been trying to do.
As mentioned in that post, people from HL7 International have been working with openEHR trying to do exactly this. We may arrive at various conclusions, some of which may even be the hinted or plainly stated conclusions in the post, but it will be the result of trying to come up with whatever that will be to the benefit of stakeholders, so I’d have no issue with it.
The unfortunate surprise for me is a post written in this tone coming from someone who is at an influential position in HL7 FHIR in Europe. Yes, there is a disclaimer at the end that says this is all personal opinions, but I am assuming what he writes is what he says in his engagements with his various hats on.
This is a stark contrast to how our collaboration is going with HL7 International and I am a bit disappointed we’re back to reading posts like this after all that effort to show that standards working together is to the benefit of everyone.
Who is supposed to read all this?
