[http://www.openehr.org/news_events/foundation_news.php?id=87](http://www.openehr.org/news_events/foundation_news.php?id=87) This will initially involve seven companies who will fund collective developments that increase the value of openEHR as a way to record and share health information inside systems. It has been a long road to establish the value of a non-proprietary means of capturing clinical requirements for data collection and using these 'archetypes' or DCMs directly to store and retrieve health information. The sophisticated 'packaging' around the clinical content allows the information to be distributed, exist in different translations and work for a person in a collective store or on their phone (or a bit of both) over their lifetime. Multiple apps will be able to access multiple health record stores - we are separating the health record from the applications (which must come and go as we all please). The ultimate beneficiary of our collective work will be patients and their empowered health care professionals. Some will argue, let's move straight to the patient and empower them. Until the health record is universal and works for health professionals we are only nibbling at the edges. This is a big step forward for the openEHR Foundation and all of you who have contributed over the years. In truth, our work is only just beginning. More soon.
