# Export template as xmind **Category:** [Archetype Designer](https://discourse.openehr.org/c/archetype-designer/30) **Created:** 2026-03-12 12:36 UTC **Views:** 45 **Replies:** 4 **URL:** https://discourse.openehr.org/t/export-template-as-xmind/11826 --- ## Post #1 by @OscarKarlsson Hi! I would like to export a template as an XMind file. However, when I try to export the template as XMind, nothing seems to happen. I can successfully export archetypes as XMind, so that functionality appears to work. Does anyone have any tips on what I might be doing wrong, how to fix this, or if there is another easy way to generate an XMind from a template? --- ## Post #2 by @yampeku not sure if related, but some IPS templates have names with “&” which could break some XML-based exports (if I remember correctly, label is allergies & intolerances). Is that the template you are exporting? --- ## Post #3 by @ian.mcnicoll I can share an app that will convert a Web template to xmind. It is a bit limited by the xmind api that we used and it us actually quite tricky to know exactly how much detail to carry. The app code is at https://github.com/freshehrteam/wt2xt Example (ugly!!) below - is that what you had in mind? [Template GENOC - Familial risk Tumour genomics report 1.0.0-beta.14 Tue Oct 21 2025.xmind|attachment](upload://y7CQGMvXFQT0GAfdASUF119VYG9.xmind) (264.0 KB) --- ## Post #4 by @OscarKarlsson Thanks for the reply. I actually managed to convert my template to **OPML format** (with some help from ChatGPT), which I was then able to import into XMind. --- ## Post #5 by @erik.sundvall @OscarKarlsson I believe some people might be very interested in how you did that, for example seeing the prompts used  P.s. Sligthly related thread that lists many interesting mindmapping tools https://discourse.openehr.org/t/thoughts-on-wisemapping-an-open-source-web-based-collaborative-mind-mapping-tool/11478 - The open souce ones could likely be tweaked/extended to streamline template related analysis/design work more. --- **Canonical:** https://discourse.openehr.org/t/export-template-as-xmind/11826 **Original content:** https://discourse.openehr.org/t/export-template-as-xmind/11826
