Hi All,

A reference that discusses age-related triggers:

[http://www.separationsnow.com/basehtml/SepH/1,1353,6-1-4-1-0-news\_detail-0-619,00.html](http://www.separationsnow.com/basehtml/SepH/1,1353,6-1-4-1-0-news_detail-0-619,00.html)

-experiments with yeast
-compares with empirical eveidence re humans
-yeast & humans:
"... genetic instability shoots up dramatically in the middle to late stage of life. "
-yeast:
"... equivalent of late middle age ... 200-fold surge in the production of genetic changes ...
may be an ideal model for understanding the complexities of age-related cancer development in humans. "
-"... The discovery that an age-dependent switch is somehow activated to trigger genomic instability could have major scientific consequences ..."
-"... If researchers can determine the molecular mechanics that trip the switch, they one day may be able to develop drugs or gene-replacement methods to prevent the switch from being thrown in the first place ..."

"... \*develop drugs or gene-replacement methods to prevent the switch from being thrown\* ..."

An industry in the making. Should a procedure be developed for a Patient identifying the age
at which one or more triggers can occur it appears a natural consequence would be a total
re-arrangement of life-style coupled with a drug regimen to bypass the switch.

My belief is that there a many potential 'mid-course corrections' that can be hung off of
the generic key 'age'. Additional 'qualifiers' may no longer suffice.

Even if it proves 50% effective you have a 'real' industry building aroound it. Patients will demand to know whattheir 'bad age' is.

Hi Thomas,

We have been deeply involved in such a process for nearly 3 years with a project named DPIO for Dépistage et Prévention Individuelle Organisée (no official translation yet).

We work in the following way :
- Individual risk evaluation by the GP (no mass process)
- Follow up (or early lesions findings) triggers
- Management of all this over time on the Ligne de vie

What I can say is that the only age/sex trigger is "individual risk evaluation" ; other triggers depend on the risk level you just evaluated.
However, all this process is very complex since you always have to balance the risk/benefit ratio of primary prevention.

Cheers

Philippe

Hi Philippe,

This appears to be a very significant project for age-sensitive Patients of all
ages. Diabetes Patients would represent one group that could benefit greatly from
'Individual risk evaluation' and subsequent 'risk management'. In just a short
conversation with others each had at least one example of 'age-related' and/or
'age-dependent' Healthcare issues affecting family and friends.
